Mapping geocaches with alternate map backgrounds in Google Maps
This map was created by uploading a Geocaching.com ".loc" file to GPS Visualizer's Google Maps input form. It illustrates a few things:
- The background is a USGS topographic map, not the standard Google background; use the little menu in the upper right corner to select alternate views.
- The points have labels on them. The default is to have the labels only appear as "mouseovers," but these "permanent" labels are a second option.
- If you click on a marker, a window pops up with a link to the original page on geocaching.com; this happens automatically for any waypoint whose name looks like a geocache ID (e.g., "GCJR1A"), but the destination of the link could be overriden by a "url" field in the input data.
