If you want to see examples of a particular type of map option, use the first menu ("Select a background map type").

If you want to see which types of map would be recommended for a few sample locations, use the second menu ("Select a location"). The distances next to the location names are the approximate east-west distances across each map; when choosing a background, the size of the area you're mapping is very important!
